Antelope Passage

Slot canyons have fascinated me since I first saw images of them when we moved to Arizona. The canyons are formed by immense amounts of water cutting its way through the soft sandstone found in Arizona and areas of southern Utah. This particular image was taken with the 4 x 5 Wista at Lower Antelope Canyon south of Page, Arizona in July of 1997. Two weeks after this image was made, tragedy struck and several tourists were killed in a flash flood. Hearing of tragedies like this gives me an immense amount of respect for the power of nature and the sheer destruction it can cause. -- Rebecca
