Dawn in the Grand Canyon is truly a sight to behold.
As the light first makes its way into the canyon,
the detail of the rocks and buttes begins to reveal
itself in the most dramatic ways. This image was taken
on the fifth and final day of hiking in Grand
Canyon National Park in July, 2001. We stopped for
this image just before reaching an area known as
the "Cathedral Stairs" on the Hermit Trail. The
trail we were hiking on is visible to the right of
the image. The colors in the canyon are very subtle
and muted before light directly hits creating a
