In September of 1998, we were lucky enough to be at
the North Rim of the Grand Canyon during a passing
storm. I, of course, was hoping to get some images
of lightning over the canyon and was set up with
the 4 x 5 Wista pointed south. There was a couple
on a rock below us watching the storm and we were
starting to get a bit nervous when the woman's
short straight hair began to stand up on end. Her
companion didn't seem to understand that this meant
there was a significant amount of electric charge
in the area which could result in a lightning
strike as he was simple pointing and laughing at
her new hairstyle. Keith and I, however, were
scrunched down as far as we could to avoid being
the targets. Luckily for the young lady, no
lightning struck that day, but as the storm passed
we happened to turn around to the north and saw
this wonderful rainbow crossing the canyon --Rebecca. |
