This is actually a flower in the thistle family. Keith and I were hiking along Sycamore Creek, northeast of Phoenix, when we came across these flowers in various stages of blooming. They are on a very long stalk (about 4 feet tall), and it always seems to be just windy enough to move the flowers.
It took some time to get this shot, but I love the way the pollen just explodes from the tip of the flower. --Rebecca |
