This image was taken in the Superstition Mountains
in 1997 after visiting a ghost town across from
Lost Dutchman State Park. I was enjoying a visit
from my friend Marianne and decided to show her the
magnificant poppies that bloom in the Superstition
Mountains. 1997 happened to be an el Nino year and
we had gotten a significant amount of rain that
winter. A lot of rain means a lot of poppies and
when we were driving to the state park, all we
could see for miles was the yellow of the poppies.
This was my first year in Arizona and I had never
seen such a display before. I broke out the 4 x 5
Wista and started shooting the first of what would
turn out to be several images of poppies surrounded
by various other plants. --Rebecca
