Murphy's law says if something can go wrong, it
will go wrong. This law proved true when we planned
to go visit friends that had just moved to Redondo
Beach, California. The week we planned on turned
out to be a week our friends had already made plans
to take a trip (to Phoenix, no less!). We went
anyway and stayed at our friends' apartment which
happened to be within walking distance of the
beach. We walked over to the beach to take a sunset
shot, and after I got the RB67 medium format camera
all set up, I realized my light meter had died. I
did not have the forethought to add extra batteries
to my camera bag, so I had to wing it. I completely
guessed at the exposure time and shot off a couple
images. I was also very pleased to see a sailboat
drift into the frame and shot a couple more images
before closing up. When I got the images back, I
was pleased with the exposure (and surprised they
came out), but a bit disappointed to see the lens
flare in the rocks (that is the red dot in the
rocks). There are mixed reviews on the flare, some
think it adds to the image and some think it is
distracting. I suppose that is why they call it a
'personal opinion'. -- Rebecca |
